BHS Impromptu Series

January 10, 2012

Weekend visitors to Bonifacio High Street enjoy the regular fare of food and shopping choices together with the park and interactive art installations.

Special high profile events are also held for product launches and special events.  And on some Saturday evenings, guests are unexpectedly treated to special performances as part of the BGC Impromptu Series.  These are intended as a regular program of art activities and impromptu performances to create a vibrant atmosphere where professional and amateur artists and artisans can share their talents with the BHS patrons and community.

The series was launched in August with the performance of the Pundaquit Virtuosi, a string orchestra from Zambales trained by Alfonso "Coke" Bolipata through his community program based in Casa San Miguel, San Antonio, Zambales.  Their repertoire combined favorite classical pieces such as Vivaldi and Mozart along with pop songs.  Laguna-based choir, Himig Sanghaya was the featured artist for September and entertained BHS visitors to a selection of pop songs performed in a capella.

For October, in line with the celebration of Hispanic Month, Centro Flamenco performed this classic Spanish dance but with a contemporary twist.  Instead of the usual billowy attire, the ladies wore casual get up with jeans.  Guests gathered around the improvised stage as the flamenco dancers dance to the beat provided by Yerbaguena.

The series will continue and towards the direction of featuring more amateur artists and offer BHS as their stage.
