Going Green

August 18, 2011

Bonifacio Global City, known to be a premiere business district and home to some of the city's illustrious residential, office and retail structures, is also an advocate of sustainable development.

One of the go-green efforts of BGC is to make use of LED streetlights to light up the streets of BGC Center North District, starting from the 32nd and 34th Streets, as well as 11th Avenue.  LEDs are both environment-friendly and economically-sustainable compared to traditional High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lighting. The use of 265 LED lights in the streets of BGC reduces carbon dioxide approximately by as much as 82,000 kilograms.

There are a lot of quality related benefits too, such as the efficiency, quality of light, lifespan and more. The operational life of current white LED lamps is 100,000 hours. This is 11 years of continuous operation, or 22 years of 50% operation, virtually eliminating the need for routine bulb replacement.
